Capernwray Conference Hall

ABOUT THE

PROJECT

Capernwray is located at the end of a beautiful valley set in North Lancashire.
The Estate was bought by the Thomas family in 1948 and since that point the family have developed and expanded the buildings to accommodate their passion and commitment in life which is to teach and encourage people from all over the world in the truths of the Christian Gospel.
The existing hall has seen many adaptations from its inception by the Marston family since 1840’s.
The new Conference Hall replaces the old and tied existing building which was a timber frame kit build shipped across from Canada in the late 1950’s.
The new building is the same width as the existing building, but is longer and accommodates a larger hall area and offices.
The important aspect of the design is to keep the same feeling of space the old building has and to relate to the other buildings I have designed on the campus.
The Dining Hall building built 10 years earlier has a distinct large low roof design connecting the building to the terrace landscape. This building uses the same basic principle and uses building materials of local stone, slates roofs.
